Joint Aid Management is a non-profit Christian humanitarian relief organisation founded in 1984.
JAM currently assists more than 340,000 children with feeding programmes in Angola, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, Sudan & Benin. JAM has offices in Canada, UK, Germany, Norway & the USA with the headoffice in Johannesburg.
JAM is continually grateful to their donors; without whom, none of their programmes would be possible.
FEEDING
JAM's nutritional feeding programmes are mainly focused on schools, with the main objective to assist malnourished children to attend school and further their education while receiving good nutritional intake.
WATER DRILLING
JAM Drilling has responded to the great need for clean and safe water in South Africa in the areas of Limpopo, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu Natal and Mpumalanga. Drilling operations are also underway in Southern Sudan. The main focus is to supply portable water to desperate communities, close to a local school or community centre, where possible. JAM has supplied more than 700 boreholes since drilling operations started in 2001 and is planning to start water provision operations in Mozambique and Benin within the course of the year.
AGRICULTURAL ASSISTANCE
JAM provides seeds, tools and agricultural training for rural communities in the countries where they operate, enabling families to help themselves.
RWANDA
Due to the genocide in Rwanda, more than 95,000 children were orphaned by the end of 1994. JAM established an orphanage in Giterama, Rwanda. This orphanage houses as many as 800 children. These orphans receive nourishment from 3 healthy meals each day as well as loving care given by staff and teachers employed at the orphanage. JAM also sponsors schooling for each child with a strong focus on education.
At the JAM training centre, young men and women receive practical skills training in art, domestic science, carpentry, pottery, computer literacy and agriculture. The Rwandan Department of Education has approved the courses offered and each graduate receives a certificate. A school for the deaf is also included in the JAM Training Centre.
SOUTH AFRICA
Community and school upliftment programmes in the Orange Farm area of South Africa include:
1. A training centre to train HIV/AIDS representatives as well as offering agriculture, computer sciences and other skills development courses 2. Sports facilities for schools and the community 3. A multimedia centre, including a community internet café
JAM is implementing a schools gardening project for 10 schools in South Africa's Eastern Cape, providing seeds, tools and a borehole at each school. Scholars will also receive training in agriculture, sanitation, nutrition and general health.
